Challenge #9

Both solids and stripes look good on this week's 8 ball run challenge...how do you do it?

Question for the crowd...how fast do you shoot?
  • Really quickly, done it a thousand times....
  • Moderate, mythodical
  • Normal, looks at all the options
  • Slow, smokes a cigarette between shots
  • Molasses, REF...Put a clock on him!

Solution #8

Well, did you have a chance to look at last weeks challenge?

Here is my attempt with no safety in mind!

You didn't want solids did you?

Really had no choice but to take your chances at running stripes...

Your key ball had to be the 15 since it was really locked in there...having the right angles and speed is key!

The 9 ball only has one pocket, and it best to take as early as I can...it my angles work out, this is the way I run these!

Less commentary..more action

8 Ball Run League Recap, Week #6

Well I'm falling behind a little bit on my updates, but that isn't because things have been going badly! We played quite well again at Drifter's this past week, winning 5-1 to bring our record to 32-4!

Our team record it 108-42 in 8 ball games...which is 72% overall. This is quite dominating!

Comparing this to the best league 8 ball team performance's that I've been a part of...

My Incognito team 8 ball game record was 302-198 ~ 60%

My Smooth Stone team 8 ball record was 335-215 ~ 61%

Maybe we have just been hot...but it definitely is a lot of fun!

There are 4 teams that haven't had a bye yet, and we are one of them. We have a bye the first week of November (I think). This week we play the 4th place Sun Valley Straight Shooters at Cappy's...I think we have only lost 1 round at Cappy's so far this season!

Challenge #8

This opening shot pretty much forces you to take stripes, but solids don't look too good anyhow...

Run'em and gun em!

Still waiting for my first user submitted 8 ball run out video...

Solution #7

This 8 ball run challenge was surely the toughest so far...how did you fare?

That was the hardest part of this run out...

Did you like solids or stripes instead?

They both looked runable after the first shot

I seen an 8 ball runout with 3 banks in it...

The 12 ball is definitely the key ball in this run out!

You need a little bit of an angle on it...

The last 4 stripes could have been run differently and still been successful!

But you'd still probably take the 8 in the bottom left corner...

Week #5 League Recap

We played at home this past week and played a team that was at 0.500 in the league, the South Sliders.

This opponent was a younger team with relatively new players, except for Tony, at least according to our local league stats. There weren't many safeties played this week, mostly run-n-gun style playing.  I prefer to play like that, but only won "3 out of 5" of my games this past week.  Partly due to under-estimating an opponent slightly, as I broke and attempted to run out a tough rack. Assuming my opponent would give me another chance based on his previous games.

Chas shot another 50, and now has 4 "50's" with a win/loss record of 23-2.  We have all won some key games to get some rounds, but this good start from Chas has had a big impact to our team record of 27-3.

With a win percentage of 90%, this is the best start a team I've been on has ever done...

I remember our Sunday Incognito team had a substaintial win/loss record in 2008, but we had "Who Cares" on our butt all the way through the season, needing a 3-3 or better the final night to win the league!

It almost seems like our team is in the wrong division, although we did get 4th in the silver last season. We changed 2 players definitely for the better!

Back in the Widmer Wheat in 2007, our team pleaded to play in the Master HiRoller League. We instead dominated the Widmer Wheat Gold, won team A, and made the top 10 at Midwest. Sometimes it is a little fun winning, just hope it doesn't hurt the quality of our pool decisions.

This week we play at Drifter's against the Screw-ups, I haven't had an ERO for a while (but have messed up 3 or 4 high percentage ones)...looking forward to extending our lead tomorrow night!

Challenge #7

This runout is a pretty tough one, at least to get started. Your opening shot is probably not much better that 50/50

No safeties...have fun and RUN EM!

Solution #6

Here is the 8 Ball Run Challenge from last week...

So would you take solids or stripes?

I like solids here, and getting shape on the tough 4 ball right off the bat.

I may have set up to take the 3 in the side if I didn't like the angle I had on the 4 ball

What is the other key solid to get out?

The 7 ball is tough, I'd probably try to get it earlier instead of taking it last as I do here..

But going 2, 6, 7 is pretty easy shape to get...

Shape on the 7 leaves option to take the 8 in the same corner or in the side...I like the side!

I sometimes have trouble with the long distance shots into the corner (probably because I shoot balls in the side too much!)

I'd hope to run this out at least 1 out of 4 times, this spread is pretty good...but could be messed up.

Trip Reset Preplanning

I pushed the reset over a month in advance, and then drove around a Wal-Mart parking lot for 5 min....I should have taken the photo at 110mph! :)

Week #4 Update

Well we had another good week, going 5-1 again with a couple ERO's on our team. I shot a 50 and am gaining on Chas for hit points. Chas is 18-2, I'm 17-3...a couple hot starts. Everyone is winning key games to get rounds. Ryan and My dad both pulled their games out to win the round.

Chas's winning streak died at 16, will be tough to beat this season...I'm at 5 in a row now with my 50, if I had won my last game last week..I'd be at 11!

Reverse Halloween

Here's a spin on reverse trick-or-treating on Halloween...that I got a kick out of.

I grew up in a college town, and one Halloween our doorbell rang and we opened the door expecting to see trick or treaters... but what was in front of our open door...was another door! A full-on wooden door, which had a sign that said "please knock." So we did, and the door swung open to reveal a bunch of drunk college dudes dressed as really old grandmothers, curlers in their hair...they proceeded to go gaga over our "costumes" and tell us we were "such cute trick or treaters!" One even pinched my cheek. Then THEY gave US candy, closed their door, picked up the door and walked to the neighbor house.

Challenge #6

Just another weekly challenge...lets try to get more involved and drop a comment! :)

Safety is not an option...

Oct 8, 2010

Solution #5

There are many ways to break out the 8 ball...

I prefer to have the 9 ball still on the table when I break out the 8...hoping to get a shot at it after I hit the 6 ball squarely!

Don't you wish all break-outs could work out EXACTLY like you planned?

VNEA Super Shot Contest

Just found out that I won the GRAND PRIZE in the VNEA Super Shot Contest...which is a JVC Mini Camcorder

Here is the video of the drawing...I was the 8th person on YouTube to view it...

Here are the trick shot videos that I submitted. I really thought mine were the best anyhow! :)

My favorite...

4 banks off the corner of the pocket to prove that it wasn't a dumb luck shot when I made it in league.

Buying a round for my team tonight!

Hear that OBAMA... more CUTS leads to more PEACE!

Obama needs to review our teaching qualifications!

0 cuts = 1 piece
1 cut = 2 pieces
2 cuts = 3 pieces

Challenge #5

Made this run-out challenge a little more difficult with the 8 ball tied up...run these!

Cappy's 8BallRun.com League Recap, Week 3

Everyone played well on Wednesday night leagues, we managed to go 6-0 with a close one in the last round.  My dad got ran out on and lost 1-10, and it came down to either Chas or I needed to win.  Chas shot his 3rd straight 50 and is now 15-0...

My dad had this shot in the 4 round for a 10-5, here's the diagram

...and the video of his kick in.

Brian had a tough 8 ball shot here, it is a potential scratch shot if you slow roll it...(and you'll leave the 8 in front of the hole if you miss)

I probably woulda fired it, but would have had a better chance to miss it.

Well we play the new 2nd place team next week, hope to keep it going and extend our lead.
